For drilling core holes, rotating, cylindrical hollow bodies – the so-called ANNULAR CUTTERS – are used. While conventional twist drills cut the material on its entire drilling diameter and therefore require a relatively high force with long drilling times, the use of annular cutters convince by considerably shorter machining times.
Drilling with annular cutters is a frequent practice in mobile use of magnetic drilling machines. A minimal cutting cross section enables easy cutting, low torque values and minimal power requirements. Due to its special cutting geometry, no excessive force is required. Thus, the retention force of the magnet will not be overstressed.
The advantage of a core hole compared to a conventional hole is, that the core remains inside the drill bit and does not have to be removed. The drill core is only influenced by the cutting force of the core bit. This is particulary advantageous when cutting hard materials and processing large diameters. The result: Fast advance rates and less wear.
Annular cutters are made of high performance quality steel. The tools are available in different shank variations (e.g. Weldon).
