Irrespective of whether it is an emulsion – hence a watermiscible cooling liquid – or a non-watermiscible cooling oil: Cutting fluids primarily have to provide lubraction and keep the cutting area cool.
The MAIN PURPOSES of a cooling lubricant are to reduce the friction between the workpiece and the machine tool (good lubrication effect) and to dissipate heat effectively from the cutting area (optimum cooling characteristics).
Further more the cutting area needs to be cleaned as simply and as thouroughly as possible. And it is a precondition that the chips are removed easily from the cutting area.
It is worth mentioning the SECONDARY REQUIREMENTS on lubricants.
- Optimum corrosion protection for machine and material.
- Safety for users and environment – A modern cooling liquid needs to be free of substances that are harmful to health and the environment.
- Good material- and skin compatibility.
- Efficiency.
